The Truth about Fast Food Habits and Fat: How to Keep the Weight Down

For many people, especially those of you who live in places where fast food is readily available, gaining weight is really easy and even if you don't want to get fat, you still do. So, we can only conclude that either you are genetically fat to begin with or you have habits that lead to getting fat. As we've already mentioned fast food, you should know that eating too much of burgers and other fat-laden food often can and will make you fat.

It's true that you are what you eat and if you like eating food with plenty of fat, all that fat will simply be processed and stored in your body. Because that is what fat is all about. It's intended to be stored in the body so that you will not starve in times when food is scarce. But that's how our body handles survival in a primitive environment where people hunt and gather food while living a nomadic or semi-sedentary life, always on the go.

Well, that may be the case some ten thousand years ago, but in the past hundred years, progress has left behind evolutionary predispositions and we are now more comfortable and sedentary than ever with all the processed food and creature comforts available to us modern humans. In our lavish cities, we no longer need to hunt or forage for food or relocate to winter camps with stocks of food - we just sit on our lounge chair and order food like pizza and fat-fried fries to be delivered to our doorstep. We now have the luxury of eating fat that our ancestors would have cherished in their bodies, but now that people no longer live the primitive nomadic life, there is no more need to store too much fat. The fat just accumulates in our system until there's no more room for it in our arteries and veins and we get shut down sometimes by strokes and heart attacks.

Well, those are the facts. Now what are we going to do about it? Well, since the option of doing what our ancestors once did may not be too attractive - tracking and hunting woolly mammoths for food and burning body fat in the process - we can just opt for the next best thing and that is to simply stop eating fatty foods and to exercise regularly. Just avoid the regular burgers and take on the salad instead.

To give you a better idea of how fast food can add to your fat. Consider that the average-sized sedentary woman burns some 1600 calories everyday and this includes the maintenance of body functions. If on one morning, she decides to eat at a popular fast food joint and order the Big Breakfast with large fries and a milkshake, she would have already absorbed some 1,400 calories. Now, if she decides to eat again for lunch at the same fastfood and orders a chicken sandwich, she would have added 370 calories for a total of 1770. That's already over what her body normally burns! If she decides to eat again in the evening with a serving of pork chop, she would add some 375 to her calorie intake for the day! That would make the overall total 2145 calories! Subtract  1600 from 2145 and you would have gained 545 calories, which we all know will  likely be in the form of fat.

If you are habitually a fast food customer, you will likely add that said number of calories to your body almost everyday! Now that is something that you should not do, if you don't want to gain weight. So, do away with that unhealthy habit of yours and do something that would help you stay fit like walk 30 minutes every day. A typical 70kg person will burn 48 calories by walking a mile. Just do the math and you'll be fine.
