It may explain why there are more obese women than men.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The research involved participants who fasted overnight and then exposed to the site of food while having their brain scanned. Before the experiment, they were also taught how to suppress the desire for food using a cognitive technique. While both the men and women participants said the hunger suppression technique worked, their brains of the women told otherwise.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Based on the results, it would seem that the men were able to suppress hunger more effectively. On the other hand, the regions of the brain that controlled the desire to eat in women were still active. It's hard to think of a answer. In the sedentary life that people live today, exercise is a must. But there were a couple of drugs found to be effective in replicating the effects of exercise on the body. If these drugs are administered into your system, your body is switched into exercise mode instantly but without the need to do anything but sit back and relax. You burn fat and your muscles grow.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What are these drugs? They are &lt;a href="http://discovermagazine.com/2009/jan/061"&gt;AICAR and GW1516&lt;/a&gt; and their effects were studied and reported in the first half of 2008. What they do is to activate the two proteins (AMPK and PGC1-alpha) that rev up the metabolic processes of muscles during exercise. Ronald Evans of the Salk Institute in La Jolla says the drugs turn on the endurance gene network. If you have been exercising in your basement, you may benefit tremendously from joining a gym where you can interact with other people and use different equipment. &lt;br /&gt;Don't worry about not using your home equipment. It may be that once you have exercised at a gym for awhile, you'll be ready for another change and want to resume exercising at home. It would appear that many an eager beginning exerciser looses interest and stops an exercise plan within a month. In order to keep this phenomenon from happening to you, follow these steps.&lt;br /&gt;If you are currently using a gym and find yourself not wanting to go in, it may be time to look at exercising at home. There is something to be said for finding the quiet and solitude exercising can bring when you're not in the middle of a crowded, noisy gym. &lt;br /&gt;A second key for increasing motivation to exercise is in finding a way to listen to music that motivates you. For me personally, I use hip-hop, R &amp;amp; B, and rap. If you saw me in my SUV with kids in tow, you may not believe me. Just ask my wife; she's the one who programs all my music into the MP-3 player he got me for Valentine's Day off of ebay. &lt;br /&gt;A third important key is to take a look at the clothing you wear when you exercise. Have you run more than 200 miles in a pair of shoes? If so, it's definitely time for a new pair. Also, make sure that what you wear to exercise is comfortable and non-restrictive. &lt;br /&gt;In addition to the function of work-out clothing, appearance is important. If you have a great new pair of work-out pants, you may be more motivated to get up in the morning and go to the gym. If you're wearing the same T-shirt you've worn for twenty years, it may be time for a little shopping trip. &lt;br /&gt;The shopping trip doesn't have to be expensive. A friend of mine buys her work-out gear at Goodwill. She always looks fabulous. &lt;br /&gt;A fourth key is to keep focusing on the goals you have set for yourself. If you've reached your goals, it's time to set some new ones. Be sure to keep your goals realistic and measurable to prevent discouragement. &lt;br /&gt;A fifth and final key to maintain or increase motivation to exercise is charting progress. Once you have an attainable goal, how will you know when you have moved one step closer? If you chart your progress, you will clearly see where you are and where you hope to go. &lt;br /&gt;There are as many ways to work out as there are people who work out. Everyone's routine is different and tailored to them. These low carb veggies are your first choice: alfalfa sprouts, arugala, bok choy, celery, chicory, chives, cucumber, daikon, endive, escarole, fennel, jicama, lettuce, peppers, radicchio, radishes, and romaine.&lt;br /&gt;These vegetables are slightly higher in carbohydrates and you should use them carefully, making sure to stay within your daily carb limit: artichoke, celery root, pumpkin, artichoke hearts, rhubarb, asparagus, chard, sauerkraut, bamboo shoots, collard greens, scallions, dandelion, snow peas, bean sprouts, dandelion greens, spaghetti squash, beet greens, eggplant, spinach, broccoli, hearts of palm, string or wax beans, broccoli, kale, summer squash, Brussels sprouts, kohlrabi, tomato, bean sprouts, leeks, turnips, cabbage, okra, water chestnuts, cauliflower, onion, and zucchini.&lt;br /&gt;Of course you will want to use condiment and garnishes to make the food more palatable. Use spices and herbs to taste (make sure there is no added sugar). Butter and sour cream will also make this diet easier to follow. Just remember these are very high sources of calories, so limit there use.&lt;br /&gt;You'll need oil to cook with. Olive oil is good. So are canola, walnut, soybean, grape seed, sesame, sunflower and safflower. Avoid margarine and other trans fats.&lt;br /&gt;If you have a sweet tooth you will want to use sweeteners. Sucralose (Splenda), cyclamate, saccharin, and acesulfame-K are okay to use. Do not use maltose, dextrose, fructose and anything else that ends in "ose".&lt;br /&gt;The beverage of choice on the list of Atkins diet foods is water. Filtered, spring, mineral or tap will do just fine. Other beverages are allowed if there are no added carbs, make sure to read the labels.&lt;br /&gt;Diet soda is okay if sweetened with Splenda. Avoid caffeinated beverages. Caffeine can caused blood sugar to spike in some people.&lt;br /&gt;If you need more variety in your diet you can add these foods occasionally. 10 to 20 olives or half of a small avocado per day. Or instead have 2 or 3 tablespoons of lemon or lime juice, 1 oz. of sour cream or 3 oz. of unsweetened heavy cream. You do need to be careful eating these because they may slow down your weight loss efforts.
